Show me the money…

In Show Notes on November 1, 2006 by alanswan

Hows its going, jaysus it’s cold today! Hello November……

One of our first texts of the morning was this……. “01/11/2006″,”11:13:41″,”There were loads of kids around our estate and i used to love Halloween… my kids are all grown up now, but last night there was one boy aged about twelve and i gave him fifty pence and he swore at me and said it wasent enough…. it was ten o clock i dident have any more change left” This text reminded me of a rant I went on this time last year about rude kids demanding money while trick or treating!! Whats wrong with sweets anymore and I wouldn’t mind they don’t even offer to do a little trick etc for the goodies……

After ranting about last years rant I calmed down to discuss the following on the show: Lotto numbers going from 42 to 45 with the minimum cost of playing going from 2 Euro to 3 Euro. The cost goes up and so do the odds…. We also chatted about www.checktheregister.ie, Madonna on Newsnight tonight, new airline regulations, while the the answer to the teaser was 16 = 8+8.

Music wise today we played the following, Artist/Song: Madonna-Jump, Mickey Harte-Wish You Well, Vanessa Carlton-A Thousand Miles, Billy Joel-An Innocent Man, Lily Allen-Smile, Leslie Dowdall-Wonderful Thing, Take That-Back For Good, Deacon Blue-Real Gone Kid, James Brown-Living In America, All Saints-Rocksteady, Liberty X-Being Nobody, Stevie Wonder-Signed Sealed Delivered, Savage Garden-I Knew I Loved You, Snow Patrol-Chasing Cars, Des-ree with You Gotta Be, The LA’s-There She Goes CLASSIC NO1 & QUARTER TO ONE Eddie Cochran-3 Steps To Heaven.

Thats all for today, Back on the air tomorrow 11am GMT – www.kclr96fm.com AS

Greek Google

In Show Notes on October 27, 2006 by alanswan

Just looking at Google Zeitgeist: Search patterns, trends, and surprises, this is where you can check out what everyone is searching for through the Google search engine. In Ireland it was the following during the month of August. At no 3. Aer Lingus, No. 2 Big Brother and No. 1 Ryanair. Other popular searches included Love island, myspace, Wikipedia, Car Zone, Dublin airport, Bus Eireann, Budget Travel, Paddy Power and Electric Picnic. Full list is here. All fairly sensible sites, well bar Love Island and Big Brother… anyway…. the gas thing is it lists various other countries and judging by the list from Google Greece it looks like its only Men who use the net there! : All searches for football clubs and women (except for Johnny Depp who made the top 15) !!! the list included Shakira, Paris Hilton, Pamela Anderson and clubs Olympiakos and Panathinaikos, I could go on…. I was surprised though not to see You Tube or Bebo on the Irish search top 15……

Right, enough rambles about Google, here’s todays shownotes. Today we discussed the ‘Statistical Yearbook of Ireland 2006’ published by the Central Statistics Office. If you are into Irish facts etc you will love this.  Otherwise it was very much a music fest as Friday always is. Take a Breakers choice were you picked the music and for the bank holiday weekend a Swing Music Weekend for a change mixed in with some nice easy listening classics. As the Fast Show would say… “Nice”..

Music today included: Pet Shop Boys-It’s a Sin, Take That-Patience, Blondie-Maria, Dean Martin-Thats Amore, Perry Como-Papa Loves Mambo, Luan Parle-Corporate Culture, Andy Williams-Music To Watch The Girls Go By, Elvis Presley-Fever, Elton JOhn-Nikita, Frank Sinatra-Theme From NY NY, Ken Dodd-Happiness, Phil Lynott-Kings Call, Sheryl Crow-All I Wanna Do, Prefab Sprout-The King Of Rock and Roll, Rubyhorse-Sparkle, Michael Bouble-Crazy Little Thing Called Love.

Anyway, have a lovely Bank Holiday weekend, We’ll be here Monday with an extended show from 11am-2pm. Yes, we’re working Monday, bitter???? Never :-) AS takeabreak@kclr96fm.com

Blogs as Gaeilge….

In Show Notes on October 24, 2006 by alanswan

Above is a link to a TG4 feature about a fantastic syndicated Irish language radio show called ‘An Líonra Sóisialta’ that we broadcast on KCLR 96fm. All about the Internet and its various contents, the show features blogs, podcasts and everything in between. What I love about the show is that the Irish used is very easy to understand and at the same time not dumbed down. The content is also very interesting. A really great show that deserves a wide audience. Don’t fret though if you cannot tune in locally, you can also download the show as a podcast. Download away at www.anlionra.com.Well done Conn, clár iontach a bhfuil ann!

Hector here….

In Show Notes on October 19, 2006 by alanswan

Hi, here’s today’s show notes from another edition of the Take a Break show. Firstly music wise ARTIST/SONG: A-HA with The sun Always Shines On TV, Aretha Franklin-Respect, Rod Stewart-Have You Ever Seen The Rain, Natalie Imbruglia-Wishing I Was There, Luan Parle-Corporate Culture, U2-With Or Without You, The Feeling-Love It When You Call, Madonna-La Isla Bonita, Pat Benatar-Hit Me With Your Best Shot, Paul Brady-Long Goodbye, Bee Gees-Secret Love, Michael Jackson-The Way You Make Me Feel, CLASSIC NO1 @ QUARTER TO ONE: LOs Lobos with La Bamba.

Shownotes wise we talked about how we as a nation spend nearly 3 and a half grand on cigarettes every day, International Credit Union day and how a betrayed wife sold all her husbands possessions on ebay. Jim Gibbons was also on hand and answered all your gardening questions.

Finally Hector Ó hEochagáin joined us on the show to talk about his brand new book’ HECTOR’S WORLD’. Great fella and the perfect guest to chat away! Here is the full details in case you need more info: “Hector’s World is a hilarious compilation of stories from Hector’s travels and includes all the tales that make his TV series unmissable viewing such as running with the bulls in Pamplona, stripping with the Chippendales in Las Vegas, rodeo riding in Tennessee, soliciting in Amsterdam and breaking into jail in La Paz.  It also tells the stories they couldn’t show: the saga of the tattooed arse, getting married in Rio, Yuri Geller’s lunacy in Reading and how half the Cuba show was shot in Galway”

According to Penguin, the books publishers “The book is fully illustrated with photographs and memorabilia from Hector’s travels and includes lots of anecdotes, observations and painfully hilarious “cautionary tales”!  His ordinariness, sense of mischief and uninhibited approach makes him popular with every generation”. Published by Penguin Ireland at €19.99

That’s all for today, The Take a Break show live tomorrow from 11am. AS
