i102-104 News
Had to give this a mention on the blog! AS
iRADIO Signs Up Tommy Tiernan and Hector Ó hEochagáin
iRadio, which will operate the regional youth licence for the North West, today (April 16th 2007) announced that comedians Tommy Tiernan and Hector Ó hEochagáin will soon be on the airwaves across the North West of Ireland. The two stars have agreed to team up to present a weekly show on i102-104, the new youth station for the North West. Some months ago, during an appearance on The Late Late Show, Tommy Tiernan announced he had a keen interest in radio and would love to present a radio show. iRadio made immediate contact with him and set about making this a reality. Now both Tommy and Hector, who were classmates in school, are looking forward to reuniting for the new venture on i102-104.
Speaking about his new role, Tommy Tiernan commented; “I’ve always wanted to have loads of craic on the radio. What better way to have a mountain of devilment than to do a show with my best friend.”
Hector Ó hEochagáin had this to say about the team-up for i102-104; “It’s been a long time since I togged out beside the fella for PE class! We’re now about to tog out on the airwaves. Let the games begin!”
Commenting on this significant coup, Dan Healy, Chief Executive of iRadio, said; “this is a major breakthrough for Irish radio, particularly for regional radio. We have promised to deliver fresh and exciting radio to the North West and Tommy and Hector are a key part of this. The plans for i102-104 are well underway, in fact we are two months ahead of schedule, and can’t wait to be on air.”
Recently awarded a licence by the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland, i102-104 will broadcast to the Galway, Mayo, Longford, Roscommon, Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal areas. In addition to signing up these well known stars, the station has conducted a region wide talent search to uncover new talent and find the next generation of broadcasters. iRadio has auditioned approximately 300 people across the North West to date. i102-104, which will be based in Galway City, is seeking to employ 32 people full-time and 10 in a part-time capacity.

e-music
Quick note to point you in the direction of www.emusic.com. Joined up yesterday and got 50 free downloads. (Its a monthly subscribe for 12.99 and for that you get 40 tracks per month) Just downloaded Daniel Lanois’s ‘Still Water’ – What a song, first heard it in 1997 (even though the album had been out for years) when I was in college and haven’t heard it in ages since. Thank you e-music – its still sounds fantastic and the memories of college are great too! AS
Cool Promo, Cool Song
This is a cool little promo to promote a new artist called ‘Mika’. The song is called ‘Grace Kelly’. I’ve linked the video below. Really happy song, in fact, the perfect song to counteract a dark cold January! More later AS

World Record Attempt
World Record Carol Service Planned for Kilkenny next Sunday
All Welcome at Guinness Book of Records Attempt. People from all corners of the country are being invited to Kilkenny next Sunday for an attempt to stage the world’s biggest ever Carol Service.
Organisers of the event, which is being staged to help local charities, need more than 7,514 people to sing Christmas Carols for more than 15 minutes if the World Record Attempt is to be a success.
Local radio station KCLR 96FM, and the “The Kilkenny People” newspaper are joining forces with The Lions Club, Kilkenny County Council, the GAA and Kilkenny based international financial services company State Street, to organise the charity carol service on December 17.
The attempt to set a new World Record is hoping to unite choirs, bands and thousands of people from Carlow, Kilkenny and surrounding counties in the bid to topple the existing record which is held by a town in South Carolina, USA.
The organizers are inviting people from far and wide to take part in the event which promises to be a unique experience with a special festive flavour in the run up to Christmas.
The record attempt is taking place in Nowlan Park in Kilkenny, normally the venue for keenly fought hurling contests. But next Sunday the new stand in Kilkenny GAA’s Headquarters will resound to the sound of Christmas favourites with hopefully a record breaking crowd taking part.
The Guinness Book of Records is monitoring the carol service and has stipulated stringent administrative measures to ensure that a new record is achieved. The organizers are using dozens of stewards at Nowlan Park, Kilkenny to count the carol singers.
Admission to the event is absolutely free of charge and each person who takes part will receive a special commemorative certificate of participation.
Anyone wishing to take part in the event should come along to the New Stand in Nowlan Park from 11.30 a.m. on Sunday November 17th for registration for the record attempt.
The Kilkenny Hurling team are among some of the celebrities who have agreed to take part in the novel event.
The reigning all-Ireland champions will attend on the day with the Liam McCarthy Cup, and there will lots of other special guests and entertainment for all the family. Gates open at 11.30am for and registration is free of charge.
This unique celebration of Christmas will also be broadcast live from Nowlan Park, Kilkenny on KCLR 96fm.
